Skills Bootcamp in Construction for the Unemployed
MITSkills are offering an 8-week, Skills Bootcamp in construction for unemployed adults who want to start a career in construction.
This course has been designed with leading businesses and employers who have identified a series of sought-after qualifications for someone beginning a career in the construction industry.
In addition to gaining industry qualifications, you will complete a 2-week placement and interview with a construction employer. This will be your opportunity to learn what is expected of a new entrant into the construction industry; understand the different roles and requirements; develop basic construction skills; impress a potential employer and gain full-time employment.
Programme
All learners will complete the following training modules. Upon successful completion you will be awarded a certificate to evidence your achievement of these training programmes.
- Hand and Power Tools Recognition and Safety
- Measuring Materials
- General Logistics, Processes and Practices
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS Card if required)
- Fire Marshall Training
- Emergency First Aid at Work
- IPAF Training
- Traffic Marshall Training
- Working at Heights
- Principles of Manual Handling in the Workplace
- Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
Duration
This full-time 8 week programme will combine classroom theory and practical learning and include 2 weeks (minimum) of industry placement.
Location
Classroom and practical training will take place in our West London centre.
Work placements will vary depending on the specific employer and their requirements but will be based around London, Middlesex and Surrey.

Entry Criteria
You need to be 19 or over to do a Skills Bootcamp.
You do not need to have any previous knowledge in the subject. You just need to speak a good level of English and have a willingness to learn.
You must be unemployed and want to begin a career in construction.

Progression Routes
After you’ve finished your Skills Bootcamp, you’re guaranteed a job interview with an employer.
Ideally you will be offered a position with this employer and progress into full time employment or an apprenticeship.
MITSkills deliver training and recruitment services with a range of employers in a wide variety of trades. Candidates who are not successful in their placement will be offered an interview with our Information, Advice and Guidance team to assist them in their next steps.
Skills Bootcamp in Construction Supervision Skills (employed only)
MITSkills are offering a 16-week, Skills Bootcamp in construction supervision for learners currently employed in the construction industry who wish to gain their Level 3 Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision.
This qualification will develop the skills and knowledge required to supervise various trades on a construction site, ensuring instructions are followed; resources are appropriate and available; and tasks are completed to their specified timescales.
Programme
The purpose of the Bootcamp is to provide the participants the skills and knowledge to be able to supervise various trades on site. It will lead to upskilling the participants to a higher level within the organisation.
Module 1 – Introduction to Occupational Works Supervision in Construction, Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace.
Module 2 – Understand and Develop Skills Needed to Monitor Progress of Work Against Schedules in the Workplace.
Module 3 – CSCS Card Theory and Application, Implementing and Maintaining Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare Practices in the Workplace.
Module 4 – Understanding, allocating and monitoring use of plant, machinery, equipment, or vehicles.
Module 5 – Understanding and Develop the need for confirming work meets contractual, industry and manufacturers’ standards.
Module 6 – Understand, Produce and Monitor Progress of Work Against Schedules.
Module 7 – Understand and Demonstrate Good Communication Techniques, Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships in the Workplace.
Module 8 – Emergency First Aid at Work, Understand Safe Manual Handling Techniques and Progress into Employment in the Role of an occupational Work Supervisor.
Duration
This 16 week programme (1 day per week), will combine a blended delivery of classroom theory and practical learning.

Classroom and practical training will take place in our Hartlepool centre.
Site visits will vary depending on the specific employer.
