A significant portion of the world’s wealth is concentrated in the hands of a small segment of the population. This concentration of wealth often leads to financial and social discrimination. For nations to truly prosper, equality and opportunity must be accessible to all individuals, regardless of their gender, race, religious beliefs, or economic status. When every individual can thrive, the entire world benefits.
The Targets
Everyone can contribute to achieving the Global Goals. Let us explore the ten targets designed to reduce inequalities:
Target 10.1: Reduce Income Inequalities: By 2030, progressively ensure that the income growth of the bottom 40% of the population outpaces the national average.
Target 10.2: Promote Universal Social, Economic and Political Inclusion: By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic, and political inclusion of all individuals, regardless of their age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, or economic or other status.
Target 10.3: Ensure Equal Opportunities and End Discrimination: By 2030, guarantee equal opportunities for all and reduce disparities in outcomes. This includes eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and actively promoting legislation, policies, and actions that combat discrimination.
Target 10.4: Adopt Fiscal and Social Policies That Promote Equality: Implement policies, particularly fiscal, wage, and social protection policies, that progressively enhance equality.
Target 10.5: Improve the Regulation of Global Financial Markets and Institutions: Enhance the regulation and oversight of global financial markets and institutions and strengthen the enforcement of these regulations.
Target 10.6: Enhance Representation for Developing Countries in Financial Institutions: Ensure that developing countries have a greater voice and representation in decision-making processes within global international economic and financial institutions. This will contribute to the establishment of more effective, credible, accountable, and legitimate institutions.
Target 10.7: Facilitate Responsible and Well-Managed Migration Policies: Promote orderly, safe, and responsible migration and mobility of people by implementing planned and well-managed migration policies.
Target 10.A: Special and Differential Treatment for Developing Countries: Implement the principle of special and differential treatment for developing countries, particularly least developed countries, in accordance with World Trade Organisation agreements.
Target 10.B: Encourage Development Assistance and Investment in Least Developed Countries: Encourage official development assistance and financial flows, including foreign direct investment, to countries with the greatest needs, particularly least developed countries, African countries, small island developing states, and landlocked developing countries, in alignment with their national plans and programmes.
Target 10.C: Reduce Transaction Costs for Migrant Remittances: By 2030, reduce the transaction costs of migrant remittances to less than 3% and eliminate remittance corridors where costs exceed 5%.
