Course Structure

This course is classroom-based, combining theoretical learning with guided practical demonstrations.

This course focuses on developing core competencies in inspection and testing procedures, aligned with BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3. This ensures learners are fully equipped to carry out both initial verification and periodic inspection of electrical installations.

You will receive both practical and theoretical training in the following areas:

• Safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations • Use of test instruments for inspection and testing • Inspection procedures for electrical installations • Testing before and after energisation • Initial verification and commissioning of installations • Completion of Electrical Installation Certificates • Periodic inspection and testing techniques • Completion of Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) • Confirming safe systems of work • Reporting findings and issuing certification

Progression Routes

Upon successful completion of this Level 3 Award, learners can progress into more advanced qualifications or broaden their expertise in related areas. Typical progression routes include:

  • Level 3 Award in the Design, Installation and Commissioning of Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS)

  • Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems

  • Level 4 qualifications in Electrical Design or Inspection

  • Specialist training in low-carbon technologies and sustainable energy systems

  • Enhanced roles in electrical contracting, compliance inspection, or facilities management

This qualification also supports career development for electricians aiming to become Approved Contractors or NICEIC-certified professionals, and contributes to the skills needed for a greener, more energy-efficient future.

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants must meet the following criteria:

    1. Be at least 19 years old.
    2. Have the legal right to work in the UK (this can be verified at gov.uk/view-right-to-work).
    3. Living or working in Surrey.
    4. This qualification is aimed at experienced and practicing electrical operatives, it is not to be taken by learners with limited experience of working in the electrotechnical industry, or who do not already hold relevant Level 3 electrotechnical qualifications. Learners with demonstrable experience and holding the following, will confirm their suitability to enrol on the qualification:
      • Level 3 Electrotechnical vocational qualification, and a
      • Level 3 Initial Verification of Electrical Installations qualification, and a
      • BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations (current edition) qualification.

    All qualifications must be submitted at least working 3 days prior to the start of the course. Failure to do so may result in being unable to attend the training sessions.
