In the world of vocational training, we often talk about “potential.” But rarely do we see that potential transform into professional mastery as rapidly as we have with Lily Keogh. Today, we are thrilled to share the story of a young woman who redefined what it means to be an apprentice, navigating challenges with resilience and emerging as a leader in her field.
A Pivot Toward Purpose
Like many students, Lily’s journey began on a traditional path. After completing her GCSEs, she enrolled in sixth form. However, Lily soon realised that the standard classroom environment wasn’t the right fit for her learning style. She wanted to be in the thick of the action, learning through experience rather than just textbooks.
After gaining valuable skills in the retail sector, Lily discovered the apprenticeship route. It was the perfect middle ground: a chance to gain a Level 3 qualification in Business Administration while building a career within a high-stakes industry.
“I realised 6th form wasn’t the path I wanted to go with. I wanted to get into some work and find a route that worked for me.” — Lily Keogh
Navigating ADHD and Turning Challenges into Strengths
One of the most inspiring aspects of Lily’s story is her transparency regarding her ADHD. For many, neurodiversity can feel like a barrier in a corporate environment. For Lily, supported by her mentor Connie and the team at K10, it became a unique perspective she brought to her work.
By finding the right environment at MWH Treatment, a firm heavily involved in essential construction projects, Lily was able to apply her focus and energy to complex administrative tasks. She didn’t just meet the requirements of her apprenticeship; she exceeded them, demonstrating that with the right support, neurodiversity is a massive asset to any workforce.
“Lily has shown outstanding dedication and growth throughout her apprenticeship, consistently demonstrating a high level of organisation, professionalism, and reliability.
She has successfully led and supported the delivery of numerous events, showcasing her strong planning skills and attention to detail.” — Laura Esprit – Manager
“Lily was put forward because she is the gold standard of what an apprenticeship can achieve. She faced hurdles head-on, excelled in her coursework, and has already moved into a management role before most people her age have even finished university.”
— Connie Jones – Mentor
A Meteoric Rise at MWH Treatment
Lily’s progression has been nothing short of remarkable. Having finished her apprenticeship in October 2025, her impact on the team was so profound that MWH Treatment moved quickly to secure her future.
- October 2025: Completed Apprenticeship.
- December 2025: Secured a permanent Administrator role.
- Present: Promoted to Office Manager.
In her current role, Lily oversees the very office operations she once studied as a learner. Her journey from apprentice to leader within the same organisation is a testament to her personal drive and the effectiveness of the apprenticeship model.
“December I became an administrator with the company… [and now] I’m the office manager.” — Lily Keogh
“Lily’s hard work and capability have been recognised through her promotion during her time with us, reflecting the significant progress she has made. She has become an integral part of our region, providing invaluable support and always approaching her work with a positive and proactive attitude.” — Laura Esprit – Manager
The Road to the NCFE National Education Awards
It comes as no surprise that Lily has been named a finalist for the NCFE 2026 National Education Awards for Apprentice of the Year. This nomination recognises not just her academic success, but her professional transformation and her role as an advocate for vocational pathways.
“Lily is a highly valued member of the team and a very deserving candidate for this award.” — Laura Esprit – Manager
As we look toward the awards ceremony, Lily stands as a shining example for anyone considering an apprenticeship. Her story proves that if you find the right path, stay resilient, and work hard, there are no limits to how far you can go.
Congratulations, Lily – the whole team is behind you!
