Dylan Horne

IC Electrical

“I’ve never been as academic as those who head off to university; I knew I wanted to get straight into a trade and start working. My advice to anyone else thinking about it is to just go for it; it’s better to start now and build your future rather than waiting and being delayed by a couple of years.”

Learning and Development

“The most valuable thing for me has been seeing that it’s not just people my own age in the class; there are people from all different age groups putting in the effort, which shows the bigger picture of why this trade is so important. We’ve just finished the health and safety module and are moving on to electrical science now. It’s a great environment because our tutor, Alistair, explains everything so well, and we all feel comfortable asking each other questions as we learn.”

Performance

“Dylan started Level 3 Electrical Installation in September 2025 and is progressing really well. He completed the knowledge unit NETK 01 (Health and Safety) in December 2025. After achieving a pass mark in the practice exam, he took and passed the actual exam with a mark of 72%—one of the highest marks in the class. The class is currently studying NETK 08 (Electrical Science), and because Dylan has a good working knowledge of maths, he is progressing well in this module. Well done, Dylan!”

Reflection

“Before I started, I had so many questions and wasn’t sure how the course would go, but now I have a much clearer picture of everything. The biggest difference for me is that the tutor lays it all out so you can really see the larger perspective of the industry. I’m glad I chose to get straight into this rather than waiting, because it has completely changed the way I see my career path.”
