Food Production and Cooking Apprenticeship Level 2 and Level 3

The qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 and above. This qualification is designed for apprentices employed in hospitality roles such as chefs or conference and banqueting assistants/managers, who need to develop or consolidate their skills.

Who is the course for?

  • 16 + working in the industry

What will I study?

  • You are required to take mandatory units which cover aspects of maintaining food health, safety, hygiene and security of the working environment, and developing productive working relationships with colleagues in a hospitality environment you will then have a choice of optional units such as preparation and cooking or patisserie and confectionery.

What will I need for the course?

  • This qualification requires you to be working in a professional kitchen environment and to attend college once a week or be seen by your training provider regularly.

How will I be assessed?

  • You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:
  • Course work
  • Exams
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Practical demonstration /assignment
  • Practical examination
  • Written examination

How long is the course?

  • Level 2 is 18 -24 months,
  • Level 3 is one additional year.

What do I gain if successful?

  • You will gain a Level 2 Intermediate Food Production and Cooking Qualification you can then progress to completing a Level 3 Advanced Food Production and Cooking Qualification.
  • Once you have completed your Level 3 Advanced Food Production and Cooking Qualification you can progress with your career by going into the roles of Craft Chef/ Production Chef, Head Cook, Demi Chef or Chef de Partied.

How much does it cost?

  • For all candidates aged 16-18 the course is fully funded by the Government. It is available to anybody working in the industry.
  • Outside of the 16-18 age group costs will be dependent on individual candidate and employer details.
