Early Years - Playwork Apprenticeship Level 2 and Level 3

The qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 and above. This qualification is suitable for anyone who wishes to work in a supervised role in a wide range of playwork environments. This is the ideal course for anyone who enjoys being active and working with children.

Who is the course for?

  • 16 + working in the industry

What will I study?

  • Level 2: Your level 2 apprenticeship will be an introduction to the primary aspects of working with children and young people between the ages of 4 to 16 in play environments. It provides an understanding of play work values, and the importance of play and playwork in children's and young people’s lives.
  • Level 3: The Level 3 Play work Diploma will give you the skills, knowledge and understanding required to be a playworker at Level 3 based on the National Occupational Standards. The course is designed for apprentices who want to work with children and young people between 4 – 16 years of age in a wide variety of play environments in a supervisory role.

What will I need for the course?

  • You will need to be employed with a company and attend college once a week or be seen by your training provider regularly.

How will I be assessed?

  • You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:
  • Course work
  • Exams
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Practical demonstration /assignment
  • Practical examination
  • Written examination

How long is the course?

  • Level 2 is 18 -24 months,
  • Level 3 is one additional year.

What will I gain if successful?

  • Once you have completed the Intermediate Level 2 Playwork Qualification you can progress into the Level 3 Advanced Playwork qualification. The Level 3 Advanced Play work qualification intends to prepare you for employment. On completing the Diploma you can work in roles such as:
  • Hospital Playwork Assistant
  • Assistant Playworker in a Children’s Holiday Club
  • After-school Club Play work Assistant
  • Adventure Centre Assistant
  • Soft Play Area Assistant

How much does it cost?

  • For all candidates aged 16-18 the course is fully funded by the Government. It is available to anybody working in the industry.
  • Outside of the 16-18 age group costs will be dependent on individual candidate and employer details.
